GAUDA LANDS

They make white wines from the Albariño, Loureiro and Caíño blanco grape varieties in Rías Baixas, one of Galicia’s five denominations of origin, which currently has over 200 wineries, of which Terras Gauda is the number one in terms of volume.

The philosophy of the winery was based on the idea that Albariño could offer a greater dimension together with other autochthonous grape varieties that would provide new nuances and give the wines of O Rosal a greater category.

Terras Gauda was founded in 1989, and in 1990, its first vintage, 37,000 bottles were made from grapes grown by the area’s winegrowing partners. Over time, the winery started its own plantations, always with the fixed idea of safeguarding the identity of O Rosal wine.

In 1992, once the winery’s commitment to uniqueness had become a reality, the first vintage of the Albariño varietal was produced: Abadía de San Campio, which over the years has incorporated original and fun labels such as its sailor edition.

In 1993 he began making Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra, the first Rías Baixas D.O. wine to be fermented in oak and aged on its lees. We were looking for a wine that, in addition to showing the characteristics of its varieties, would offer the subtle contributions of French oak.

At the beginning of 2011 they present La Mar, the first wine elaborated mainly with Caíño blanco, a world novelty that not only allowed us to enjoy the subtlety and strength of this little known variety, but also meant the definitive achievement of the preservation of the Caíño, a grape that was on the verge of disappearing from the wine-growing scene.
